What is brown rice? What is the difference between brown and white rice?

Brown rice is unprocessed rice. It is brown in color because its outer layer of grain has not yet been removed. The brown part of the rice is removed by polishing, where the bran is removed and the grain remains white. Rice processed in this way is called white rice. Another big difference between brown and white rice is their different texture, taste, and nutritional and health values. When cooking, you will immediately notice that it takes twice as long to cook brown rice. In contrast, white rice is very easy to cook. But there are obvious nutritional and health benefits to eating brown rice.

Japanese brown rice

Japanese brown rice offers superior nutritional and health benefits compared to other types of rice. When properly prepared, this rice is very flavorful, chewy, and has a texture similar to Japanese mochi. It may be less sticky than Japanese white rice, but its dense texture is packed with amazingly healthy and nutritional benefits.

What are the main health benefits of eating Japanese brown rice?

In Japan, brown rice is defined as a super food. Its daily consumption has significant health benefits. Japanese brown rice is rich in fiber, its consumption supports lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. To achieve a balanced diet, daily consumption of brown rice is highly recommended by Japanese doctors. It is also known that brown rice is a powerful antioxidant that protects the organism from external stress, the risk of chronic diseases and generally strengthens the immune system.

Japanese brown rice has a large amount of selenium, which supports the normal functioning of the thyroid gland, and mainly fulfills the function of an indispensable antioxidant. Selenium is known as a very important trace element, and it is absolutely indispensable for the human body. Selenium naturally contained in Japanese brown rice helps to regulate the thyroid gland and has antioxidant effects against unwanted radicals. Due to its rich content of various necessary components for the daily healthy functioning of the body, brown rice induces a feeling of satiety in us and thus indirectly prevents overeating. It can be said that eating brown rice helps regulate body weight. Brown rice is full of essential minerals and vitamins, which also contribute to the fight against fatigue, ensure smooth functioning of the intestines and reduce the risk of constipation.

How to cook brown rice

Step 1.

It is recommended to rinse the brown rice lightly in cold water. It is good to use a little more force so that the grains rub against each other a little, thereby scratching the outer part of the grain, the so-called rice germ. In this way the water gets into the grain itself.  We recommend leaving the rice in water for a longer time before cooking, minimum 30 minutes but ideally 6 hours, so that the water gets into the grain and the grain grows a bit a gets softer. Then proceed in the same way as when you cook white rice.

We recommend leaving brown rice in water for at least 6 hours before cooking. Put in cold water and leave to stand for at least 6 hours, ideally in the fridge.

Step 2.

Once the brown rice has been rinsed several times, ideally put the rice in a rice cooker, pressure cooker, or stainless steel pot. Use 250 ml of water for 150 grams. For 300 grams, 500 ml of water. And for 450 grams, 750 miles of water.

Step 3.

While the brown rice is cooking, cook for 10 minutes until steam begins to rise from the pressure cooker or cook in the pot with a lid until it is boiling. Then set it to medium and let it cook for about 10 minutes. Turn off and let stand in the pressure cooker until the steam and pressure dissipate, or let stand for 10 minutes after cooking in the stainless steel pot covered under the lid.

Step 4.

The brown rice si cooked. Enjoy please.
